Fly from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to the Masai Mara for a private 4-day safari built around comfort, flexibility and extra time in the reserve. A private 4-day Masai Mara fly-in safari with more time on the ground
The 4-day Masai Mara flying safari is for travellers who like the efficiency of flying but do not want the safari to feel rushed. Compared with a 3-day fly-in safari, the extra night gives you more time for early morning drives, late afternoon drives, lodge downtime, cultural activities and flexible wildlife viewing.
The trip begins at Wilson Airport, Nairobi’s main safari-flight airport. You fly to the Masai Mara, land close to Keekorok Lodge, meet your private driver-guide and begin a safari that is built around your pace rather than a shared vehicle schedule.
The reference Kambu Campers itinerary uses Keekorok Lodge as the accommodation base. Keekorok is one of the best-known lodges in the Masai Mara and is conveniently close to Keekorok Airstrip, reducing transfer time after landing. The lodge setting, mature trees and hippo pool make it a comfortable choice for guests who want a lodge-based Mara safari rather than a simple camp experience.
This safari suits couples, families, older travellers, photographers, honeymooners and guests connecting through Nairobi who want a private, comfortable and flexible Mara itinerary without driving from Nairobi to the reserve.
Best for: travellers who want the speed of flying, the comfort of a lodge, and more game-drive flexibility than a shorter 3-day itinerary.

4-day Masai Mara flying safari itinerary
This itinerary follows the Kambu Campers reference structure, adapted for a WilsonAirport.org commercial product page. Exact flight times and activity order may change by season, airline schedule and lodge availability.
Day 1 — Wilson Airport to Keekorok Airstrip | Arrival and first private game drive
Arrive at Wilson Airport early for check-in, baggage weighing and boarding. The reference itinerary uses a morning flight from Wilson Airport to Keekorok Airstrip in the Masai Mara, with a soft-bag luggage limit that should be respected carefully.
As the aircraft descends into the Mara, you may already see wildlife and open plains below. On landing at Keekorok Airstrip, your private driver-guide meets you in an open-sided 4×4 Land Cruiser and transfers you to Keekorok Lodge, located a short drive from the airstrip.
After lunch and check-in, you can rest at the lodge or begin your first private game drive. With a private vehicle, the afternoon can be adjusted around your energy level, weather and wildlife movement.
Day 2 — Full private safari day in the Masai Mara
Start early, usually around 6:30 am, when predators are more active and the light is better for photography. The morning drive can focus on plains wildlife, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, elephants, giraffes, buffalo and general big-game viewing.
Return to Keekorok Lodge for breakfast and rest, or continue longer if wildlife sightings are especially strong. In the afternoon, choose between leaving after lunch or waiting until the cooler late afternoon hours for another game drive.
The benefit of a private safari is flexibility. You are not tied to the movement of other guests and can shape the day with your guide around sightings, photography needs and your preferred pace.
Day 3 — Game drive, cultural visit, Beads Museum and Masai Mara Botanical Garden
Begin with another early morning game drive. Guests who add a hot-air balloon safari usually leave before dawn, drift over the Mara at sunrise and return later in the morning after the balloon breakfast experience.
The reference Kambu itinerary includes a visit to a traditional Maasai village, the Beads Museum near Sekenani Gate and the Masai Mara Botanical Garden. This gives the safari a cultural and landscape dimension beyond wildlife viewing.
In the afternoon, return to wildlife viewing or enjoy a slower final evening at Keekorok Lodge. The extra fourth day makes this possible without compressing every activity into a short schedule.
Day 4 — Return flight to Wilson Airport, Nairobi
Enjoy breakfast and, if timing allows, a short final game drive or relaxed walk around the lodge grounds before transferring back to Keekorok Airstrip.
Fly back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. On arrival, you can continue to a Nairobi hotel, residence, meeting, restaurant or onward transfer to JKIA. If you have extra time, optional Nairobi visits such as the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage or Karen Blixen Museum can be arranged separately.
Why the 4-day fly-in safari works so well
A 4-day itinerary gives you the efficiency of flying without making the Mara feel rushed. It is a good balance between comfort, wildlife time and flexibility.
More safari time
The extra night gives you more game-drive windows than a 3-day itinerary, especially for early morning and late afternoon sightings.
Private vehicle flexibility
A private open-sided Land Cruiser lets you adjust your game drives rather than follow a shared group schedule.
Comfortable lodge base
Keekorok Lodge works well for travellers who want a lodge stay, shaded grounds and easy access from Keekorok Airstrip.
Room for add-ons
The fourth day structure leaves more space for a balloon safari, cultural visit, Beads Museum or Botanical Garden experience.
Before flying from Wilson Airport to the Masai Mara
The safari starts with a smooth Wilson Airport departure. Small-aircraft safari flights are different from international flights, so prepare carefully.
